Stu Auty is the founding president of the Canadian Safe School Network. He is the former chair of the Ontario Safe School Task Force, has worked in education for over 30 years as a teacher, counselor and school administrator. He is the founding administrator of the VanierSchool for Young Offenders in Brampton, Ontario and has served on committees for the Ontario Premier’s Council, the Ontario Minister of Education & Training, the Federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
He was the 1994 recipient of the Ontario Public School Boards Association’s “Outstanding Contributor to Education in Ontario Award”, the Ontario Crime Stopper Board’s “Safe School Award” in 1996 and recognized by the Ontario Secondary Schools Principal’s Council for outstanding service in the promotion of safe schools in Ontario in 1997.
Recently, Stu served in an advisory capacity to the Toronto Police Service, the Office for Victims of Crime in Ontario, the Attorney General of Ontario and the National Crime Prevention Centre in Ottawa.
Stu is a regular speaker to university faculties of education, school boards, teacher federations and police services and is often contacted by print, radio and television media for comment on youth violence issues.
In January 2013, Stu was awarded the prestigious Caritas Medal by Niagara University in honour of his ongoing efforts to better the lives of those around him. The full citation can be read HERE.
